A dry spinning machine has been designed, built and installed at North Carolina State University School of Textiles. This single end machine provides a research facility which makes possible the investigation of the basic phenomena which are involved in the conversion of linear, fiber forming polymers to usable fibers. Break in trials have shown that the equipment is satisfactory for such research. A preliminary study has been made to relate spinnerette hole size to spinning stability and the breaking strength and elongation of yarn produced. Solids content of spinning solutions and temperatures of same, as well as spinning speeds, have been studied as additional parameters. An annotated bibliography on the subject area, covering the period 1940-1966, is given. It is coordinately indexed and converted to a computer based system for purposes of retrieval. Author
