A FLEXIBILITY METHOD FOR LARGE DEFLECTIONS OF SHELLS.

The thesis presents a numerical method for determining the nonlinear response of a shell which undergoes large deflections. The emphasis of the study is construction of the load-deflection curve as a continuous function of a load parameter. Introduction of the load as a variable in addition to the space variables changes the nature of the system from an elliptic boundary value problem to an initial value problem. In this form, the solution is numerically extended from one loading to the next by using the theory of small strains superposed on large deformation. Author
