The techniques of electron microscopy and microprobe analysis have been applied to the examination of suspected micrometeoroid and meteoritic particles collected on satellite vehicles, high altitude probe rockets, or X-15 aircraft flights. A large number of particles have been counted and examined for purposes of determining their size distribution and morphology and chemical composition. Holes and tears in the nitrocellulose film, comprising the collector substrate, possibly caused by the impact of micrometeoroid particles, were also recorded according to size and shape. Author
