Abstract:

The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationships between design characteristics and skill dimensions. A series of paper and pencil tests to examine these relationships was administered to eight design engineers during two four-hour sessions. Design characteristics related to skill level were test points, internal components, checkout and troubleshooting procedures, type of test equipment required and gono-go displays. The engineers concept of skill level appears to be more performance-oriented than that of Air Force specialty code designations.
