Abstract:

A Stryker micro-reciprocating saw was used to perform vertical osteotomies for surgical correction of mandibular prognathism, and was evaluated with respect to time of operation and amount of blood loss. Twenty-six operations were studied, half performed by standard procedures with a cutting bur, and half with a Stryker reciprocating saw. Operating time was recorded routinely blood loss was measured by standard operating room techniques. There was no observable difference in time, but average blood losses of 408 ml per operation with a cutting bur were reduced to 200 ml by use of the Stryker saw. Author
