A brief summary is given for research where isotopic oxygen-eighteen was employed in studies of peroxide decompositions in order to help identify conformation of transition states. For this purpose, a new method was developed for syntheses of double-labeled hydrogen peroxide. The method is based on a gas discharge technique. Initial experiments sought to assess the importance of the steric effect in peroxide decomposition. For this purpose monoperoxophthalic acid was selected. Preliminary studies were made of mechanistic pathways for decomposition of effervescent, magnetic peroxoborate EMPB. No exchange of peroxidic oxygens with water molecules were observed. Studies have been completed on the decomposition of the tetraperoxochromate V ion. Related studies were also made on diperoxotriammine chromium IV. Author
