Abstract:

Dipole moments of cyclic esters of carbonic acid in benzene solution are measured and compared with theoretical calculations. Dipole moments are reported for ethylene carbonate 4-80D, 13 propylene carbonate 5-21D and 13 butylene carbonate 5-23D. These values are shown to be consistent with theoretically calculated values for the corresponding open chain compounds dimethyl carbonate and diethyl carbonate in the appropriate stereochemical configurations.
