THE EQUATIONS OF MOTION FOR A SPECIAL CLASS OF WEAPON-VEHICLE SYSTEMS.

In order to evaluate the preliminary design of any weapon-vehicle system and to predict the effectiveness and efficiency of its performance under a variety of environmental conditions, it is necessary to 1 construct a mathematical model of the system, 2 derive the equations which govern the motion of the components of this model during a typical fire mission, 3 obtain the solutions to these equations and the variations in these solutions due to changes in the system parameters, changes in the motion of the target relative to the vehicle, changes in the vehicles environment and its motion in this environment, and changes in the characteristics of the input forcing functions used to properly align the weapon, and finally, 4 verify the theoretical predictions obtained for the system model by performing a series of experimental tests on a system prototype. This report is concerned with the first two portions of this overall scheme of design evaluation, namely 1 the construction of a model for a certain class of weapon-vehicle systems, and 2 the derivation of the equations governing the motion of the components of the model during a typical fire mission.
