Abstract:
The recombination rate of oxygen atoms was measured directly in thermally pre-dissociated pure oxygen in a shock tube at a temperature above 3000K. A discrepancy of two to three orders of magnitude between various earlier, indirectly obtained experimental data prompted the author to attempt a direct measurement of the recombination rate, in view of its importance in the analysis of the combustion process and in high-temperature gas dynamics.
