The investigation described herein was devised to study the effects of two chemical grouts on bonding the rock to produce stability. Laboratory tests were made first, to determine if appreciable bond could be developed to the moist rock, then test injections of epoxy resin approximately 50 gallons, E-1 and polyester resin approximately 200 gallons, P-1 were made, and the results of these injections were evaluated by drilling NX cores in the area and studying the cores and observing the core holes with a stratascope. This investigation is divided into two parts this is the first part and it covers the laboratory testing, test injections, evaluation, and selection of epoxy resin grout for the final grouting to stabilize the rock in the entire corner.
