A brief description of literature pertinent to the oceanography of New York Bight includes a review of the seasonal thermohaline cycle. Estimates are made of significant processes of thermohaline changes. The importance of horizontal and vertical motions leads to a model of the changes based on observed wind-drift in the New Jersey area. The model is compared with infrared temperature surveys, lightship data, and temperature-salinity sections in the coastal zone. Agreement between the model and observations is apparent. Author
