Abstract:

An ultrasonic nebulizing-plasma arc system has been under evaluation. The nebulizing unit consists of a focused piezoelectric transducer operating at 1.4 megahertz, which creates a fine uniform aerosol from solutions held in a chamber. Acoustical energy is water coupled to this chamber through a thin plastic film. The systems main advantage is the handling of concentrated solutions. Both cation and anion matrix effects were found, but with adequate matching of standards and samples, both accuracy and precision for high temperature alloy analysis can be within plus or minus 5.
