Abstract:

A knowledge of the nature and amount of gas evolved from stored propellant compositions provides valuable information on the stability, compatibility, handling and storage characteristics of such compositions. A gas chromatographic method is described for the separation and quantitative determination of N2, O2, CO, NO, CO2 and N2O employing a single columnthermal conductivity detector system. Separation of N2, O2, CO and NO is achieved by operation of a 4.5 m column packed with Porapak Q at -70C and by rapid heating of the column to 20C, CO2 and N2O well separated, are eluted.
