MODULATED SIMPLE WAVES: AN APPROACH TO ATTENUATED FINITE AMPLITUDE WAVES

The paper describes some of the techniques which are currently being used to investigate finite amplitude waves in elastic and viscoelastic materials. In particular we show how the simple wave solutions, which describe finite amplitude plane progressing waves in elastic materials, may be modified to describe the effects of reflection from boundaries, deformations behind curved wave fronts, and the effects of locally small damping mechanisms.
