The density, molar volume, electrical conductance and viscosity of molten TlNO3 containing increasing amounts of HgCl2 are reported over the temperature range 182-282 C and for a limited composition range of TlNO3-rich mixtures. The Masson Equation of aqueous concentrated electrolytes is found to hold for the partial molar volume of TlNO3 in these molten mixtures. The molar volume data, and the changes in conductance and viscosity are qualitatively understood, in large part, if the NO3--HgCl2 interactions are analogous to the solvation forces of aqueous electrolytes. No evidence of discontinuities in these properties is noted at the compositions corresponding to the two congruently melting compounds TlNO3-HgCl2 and 2TlNO3.HgCl2. Author
