Abstract:
The specific heat and heat of crystallization of vapor- and electro-deposited amorphous germanium were measured with a differential scanning calorimeter. The excess specific heat of the amorphous germanium over that of crystalline phase increased linearly with temperature over the temperature range from 215 to 460K. The heat of crystallization of the amorphous films was found to be about 2.75 k calgm-atom. The interpretation of the results in terms of the structure is discussed. The specific heat of crystalline germanium was also measured for the temperature range from 215 to 700K. Author
