The research has had as its goal the determination and evaluation of feasible solutions and programmable procedures for automatic speech recognition with an immediate objective of detecting or recognizing any specified word in the context of continuous speech. The report describes the speech materials and spectral data developed for use during the investigation and outlines the major computer processing techniques under study. A primary recognition program utilizing formant-tracking and segment-labeling routines is described, together with a fundamental-frequency extraction procedure based on harmonic structure. In addition, the application of statistical techniques involving dispersion analysis and correlation measures to the analysis of spectra derived from continuous speech is described. Author
