Conventional rotating mirror systems are analyzed for the ultimate potential in display fidelity as expressed in terms of the maximum number of spot diameters across the field. Consideration is given to systems where an axis focusing of the laser beam is employed and maximum resolution figures are obtained as a function of scanner geometry and maximum rotational rates. Electronic drive systems are discussed, wherein both conventional and distributed amplification techniques are investigated for compatibility with solid state video modulators. The modulator is matched to the design configuration for each of the amplification techniques so as to optimize the bandwidth, drive voltage, and power requirements for the system. Author
