Studied were the following fundamental sensitivity properties of difluoramino compounds The low-velocity detonation LVD wave characteristics of the liquid phase The relation of shock sensitivity and failure diameter to the flow and the chemical reaction rate behind the shock front The mechanism and kinetics of thermal decomposition of the compounds in the gas phase. The compounds chosen for this study are as simple as possible structurally, but at the same time they have physical properties that permit their use in each phase of the study. The model compounds are the bis difluoramino and tris difluoramino isomers of the propane series--primarily 1,2-, 1,3-, 1,1-, and 2,2- bisdifluoraminopropane 1,2-bisdifluoramino-2-methyl propane 2,3- bisdifluoraminobutane, in meso and dl forms 1,2,2-trisdifluoraminopropane and 2,3,3-trisdifluoramino-butane. These compounds are being used so that the results from each experimental technique can be interrelated without having to account for effects caused by different functional groups, amount of carbon content, and chain branching. Through the use of isomers, structural effects on the results from a particular technique can be determined--for example, the differences in the effect of vicinal and geminate difluoramino groups on the ease of initiation and on the environmental stability of compounds containing them.
