Abstract:

Variations in the content of Cesium-137 and Strontium-90 from 1959 to 1961 in Californian and Japanese waters are discussed. The report is based on studies conducted by T. Folsom, Y. Miyake, and other Janpanese scientists. On the basis of samples taken at various times, locations and depths, it is found that the ocean pollution by radioactive wastes has been caused by the explosions of atomic and hydrogen bombs in the Marshall Islands area and that the pollution has propagated by means of ocean currents and turbulent intermixing. Three tables and a graph illustrate the report. Author
