Abstract:
Folded-plate structures consist of several rectangular, or nearly rectangular, plates arranged in a row. Two opposite edges of these plates are supported by common diaphragms, while the remaining two edges are either free or connected rigidly to adjacent plates. The plates act as a continuous slab transversely and as beams in their own planes longitudinally. This paper analyzes folded-plate structures beams consisting of two or three plates. A numerical procedure for computing stresses in certain types of thin-walled beams is presented.
