Abstract:

Numerous techniques have been developed to adapt control systems to changes in process parameters. The most general of the techniques is via a direct model determination which consists of three steps 1 periodic data collection 2 determination of new model parameters from process data and 3 updating of control parameters based on the new model parameters. This technique is very attractive in a complex system which contains numerous loops and several levels of control, all of which might be controlled by a different algorithm or strategy. In such cases a single regression program could be used in conjunction with all the loops and control level to adapt to changes in process parameters. This article will be primarily concerned with the first two steps in this approach to adaptive control. Author
