Abstract:

In practice obtaining precise velocity of a space probe requires a two way coherent communication link. This type of system which involves two phase locked loops P. L. L. in cascade simultaneously transmits information from the ground to the vehicle and back again. The study addresses itself to finding the steady state module 2 pi joint probability density function for both the output phases and phase errors of the cascaded P. L. L. The required density function is the solution of the steady state Fokker Plank equation modulo 2 pi for the cascaded P. L. L. system. However, an exact solution of this partical differential equation does not appear possible since indeed exact solutions have not been forthcoming for the simpler version of the studied system. Therefore, an approximate analytic representation of the required density functions is postulated. The parameters of this representation are given as functions of the cascaded P. L. L. system model parameters. Author
