The primary purpose of the thesis research is to examine the results of the dramatic shift by the Department of Defense and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the use of contracts containing automatic cost and profit sharing incentives. The use of capital and labor resources, over time, are compared for defense and other large firms. The outcomes of a large sample of recently completed incentive and fixed-fee contracts are analyzed. Extra- contractual factors are postulated and discussed.
