The effects of heterogeneous and homogenous chemical reactions upon compressible laminar boundary layer heat transfer are treated. The boundary layer equations including the species conservation equations are reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations using the method of Li and Nagamatsu for seeking similar solutions. The reduced equations are then solved for the special case of frozen gas phase reactions assuming that heterogeneous and homogenous reactions occur at the surface. The effects of density and transport properties variation due to the temperature and mixture composition variation in the boundary layer are taken into account. A general expression for surface heat transfer rate is then derived which accounts for the effects of the mass transfer accompanying the heterogeneous surface reactions and the heats of reaction.
