There is a need for solid-state amplifiers capable of power outputs of 10 to 100 watts in the 225-400 MHz frequency range. Both wideband and tunable narrowband amplifiers are desired. A prime requirement of these amplifiers is that they generate minimal amounts of nonlinear harmonic and sum-difference products. Emphasis on this project was placed on determination of the distortion products generated by UHF solid-state power amplifiers, and the effect of this distortion on various types of communication signals. The work involved theoretical analysis and modeling of nonlinear devices, and included an extensive design and measurement program. Author
