As a function of days of FI training both lever displacement and press duration of rats decreased or remained constant. In extinction, lever displacement and median press duration remained as they were under FI, but an increase in the number of presses of long duration occurred. Within a daily session, tendencies existed for both a reinforced and a non-reinforced press to be followed by a press of the same displacement. The mean displacement of the fist press following a reinforcement was lower, typically, than the mean displacements of succeeding presses within the fixed interval. In general, as a function of successive reinforcements, the number of presses per reinforcement indicated no pattern. Author
