Abstract:

The work done during the first year under the contract Explosion Generated Seismic Waves is discussed. The technique used in the interpretation of source mechanisms of nuclear explosions using Rayleigh and Love waves is described. Theoretical calculations to determine the stress wave pulse shapes from an explosive source in a cavity are carried out for two and three dimensional geometry. The generation and development of Rayleigh waves from a point source in a half-space are studied utilizing Cagniard-deHoop technique. Author
