Abstract:
The addition of certain carbon compounds e.g., C2F4, C2H4 and C2H2 to atomic NO mixtures results in emission of the CO Fourth Positive Bands A singlet Pi - X singlet Sigma, and in large increases in the NO chemi-ion formation rate. Addition of C2F4 also produces increases of the intensity of the NO gamma bands A doublet Sigma - X doublet Pi, NO beta bands B doublet Pi - X doublet Pi and Osinglet S - singlet D emission. The processes discussed should be distinguished from the formation of CHO chemi-ions and COA singlet Pi in the reactions of oxygen atoms with hydrocarbons such as C2H2. Author
