During this phase of the contract work was performed in the following areas 1 Signal excess level contours were computed for several sonar systems operating in various oceanographic areas. 2 Techniques were developed whereby geometrical spreading losses for unequal sourcereceiver sound velocities can be predicted on the basis of corrections to predictions made for equal sourcereceiver sound velocities. 3 A computer program for generating propagation loss under shallow water and varying bottom depth conditions, via a normal mode solution, was written. 4 A prediction system for providing average sound velocity to convergence zones in the Mediterranean Sea was developed. 5 The geometrical spreading loss prediction system developed under Contract N1407002476683B was modified to greatly increase its utility. 6 Studies were conducted to determine the feasibility of using correction factors on surface-to-surface data to obtain signal excess contours for below surface operations.
