Abstract:

Generatrices have been developed to vary the hoop and meridional forces in a pressurized membrane shell. Generatrix coordinates are shown for constant 0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8, 1.2 or varying force ratios. Possible applications of this study include 1 bulkhead designs to reduce vehicle length and weight, 2 shapes for filament-wound end closures, and 3 shapes to take advantage of non-isotropic materials. Domes should be constructed and tested for verification. Author
