Abstract:
Monoalkyl and aryl derivs. of o-NO2C6H4NH2 do not show any clear evidence of intramol H-bonding. This may be due to the positive charge present on the amino-N atom due to resonance and its effect on the vibration frequency of the H-atom that is not H-bonded. A table is given of the N-H and N O frequencies of 13 o-, m-, and p-nitroanilines. There are differences, slight in comparison with those of the nitrophenols which are better proton donors, which are attributed to intermol. H-bonding. Author
