The problem of the allowable range of variation in a plant parameter for a specified terminal margin for a closed loop optimal control system is examined. This is generally known as the inverse sensitivity problem. A method is proposed and illustrated for finding the allowable range of plant parameter variation, such that, the performance of the actual system does not change from its theoretical value. The approach taken here is via sensitivity analysis and pseudo inverse matrices. The conditions under which the inverse sensitivity problem can be solved are derived, and its limitations and practical applications are considered. Author
