A method is presented for calculating the magnitudes of the nonlinear distortion factors for all slopes of the modulation curve of the Kerr cell. The numerical results obtained on the Minsk-1 computer are presented in the form of graphs showing the dependence of the distortion factor on the amplitude of the modulating voltage within the range of optimal displacement voltages for all five slopes of the modulation curve. The method is extended to cover the modulation based on the electrooptical Pockels effect, and a formula is obtained for determination of the distortion factor for optimal operation conditions. The calculation method is also applicable to modulation using linear or square-law magnetooptic effects.
