This article presents results of an experimental investigation of gas flow in a shell-like inside electrode of a one-chamber plasmatron with vortex gas stabilization of the arc. The experimental investigations with cold blowing were carried out on transparent plastic models and with hot blowing during burning of the arc on their metal copies. The transparency of the model made it possible to observe the motion of the gas flows which were visualized by means of stained oil, sand grains, or water jets introduced into the flow at various points over the radius and length by means of a syringe. The aerodynamic effect of a one-chamber plasmatron on arc behavior is primarily evidenced by elongation of the arc after striking in the interelectrode space.
