Abstract:

The dissociation energy Do of CN has been deduced from measurements of the emission from CN and C2 generated by pyrolysing BrCN in the shock tube. Computed intensities for delta v -1 CN violet band are given in polynomial form, together with the associated low resolution spectral distributions, as a function of temperature. Vibrational relaxation times for nitrogen by collisions with HCl, DCl H2O, CH4 and CD4 near 2500K have been measured using the emission tracer technique. The probabilities per collision Q3 of vibration to vibration energy transfer at 2500K for N2-CH4, N2-H2O, N2-O2, N2-SO2, CO-NO can be correlated a plot of log Q3 against energy gap is linear for these pairs. Energy transfer from rotation does not appear to be important for any of these systems. The rate of radiative recombination of O and SO has been measured by heating SO2 in the shock tube. Author
