Abstract:

Studied was the nature of the reaction of surface-active substances with pigments and filters by infrared spectroscopy. Sorption of octadecylamine I, stearic acid II, Pb stearate III, and Ca stearate IV on Al2O2, TiO2, and SiO2 was studied by IR spectroscopy. The compds. were sorbed in air or from Et2O or PhMe solns. When absorbed from solns., I formed saltlike compds. with the sorbents. II, III, and IV were absorbed on SiO2 and formed soaplike compds. with Al2O3 or TiO2. III was more reactive than IV. III and IV decompd. on the surface of TiO2 or Al2O3, giving IR spectra analogous to absorbed II. Author
