Abstract:

A discussion of methods and for early detection of turbine engine bearing failure. Techniques mentioned involve analysis of metallic particles trapped in engine oil by various means, monitoring, of the electrical resistance of bearings as a means of determining continuity of oil film on friction surfaces, and spectrographic analysis of noises generated by bearings under different conditions. Equipment used is described and illustrated. Author
