Abstract:

The calculated characteristics of two electrically steerable linear-phase-array antennas with different types of phasing systems, parallel and pyramided, are examined. In the calculations it is assumed that the antenna radiators are isotropic when fed with equal-amplitude signals and that the phasing systems do not have internal reflections or phase and amplitude errors. An analysis of the change in gain for both antennas as functions of the inclination angle shows that the gain, in the direction of the calculated maxima, are determined by the radiator reflection factors gamma and decrease according to the relationship 1 - Gammato the 2nd power. Although the reliabilities and efficiencies of the two antennas differ and vary as functions of the inclination angle, the changes of antenna gains do not vary with the inclination angle and are the same for both antennas.
