Abstract:

This paper discusses the interface separating a metal oxide from an aqueous electrolyte solution. Two experimental techniques were applied adsorption measurements through potentiometric titrations of oxide suspensions and electrical capacity measurements on single crystals. The oxides selected for detailed study were rutile TiO2 and zincite ZnO. A result of this investigation is a new insight into the nature of oxideaqueous solution interfaces. An important accomplishment is the formulation of a thermodynamic treatment of adsorption at the oxide-solution interface. Author
