The paper describes the synthesis and properties of poly-N, N-dimethyl- and poly-N, N-diphenyl-2, 2-perfluorotrimethylene-5, 5-dibenzimidazoles and their hydrogen analogs, obtained respectively by condensing diphenyl esters of perfluoroglutaric and glutaric acids with 4, 4-bismethylamino-3, 3-diaminodiphenyl and 4, 4-dianilino-3, 3-diaminodiphenyl. It was found that the thermal stability in a vacuum of polyperfluorotrimethylene-5, 5-dibenzimidazole does not increase upon methylation at the nitrogen atom, but does increase considerably upon phenylation. In thermal stability in a vacuum, poly-N, N-diphenyl-2, 2-perfluorotrimethylene-5, 5-dibenzimidazole slightly surpasses poly-N, N-dimethyl-2, 2-trimethylene-5, 5-dibenzimidazole. Poly-N, N-diphenyl-2, 2-perfluorotrimethylene-5, 5-dibenzimidazole and poly-N, N-dimethyl-2, 2-trimethylene-5, 5-dibenzimidazole also were found to be the most stable compounds under conditions of thermal-oxidative degradation.
