The method of Reinmuth et al for determining cerebral blood flow CBF Arch. Neurol., 1249-66, 1965 has been adapted for use on dogs. Measurements of CBF, cerebral vascular resistance CVR and cerebral oxygen and glucose consumptions were made at rectal temperatures Tr of 37.5, 40, 42 and 43C. Responses at 43C were decreased compared to the values obtained at 42C. The data suggested that at Tr 42C the maximum capacity of circulation to supply O2, under natural conditions, may have been reached. Work is continuing on the problem a to determine whether maximal delivery occurred at 42C b to determine the parameters of control with elevated Tr. Author
