The preparations of chelate polymers from acetylacetone pentanedione-2, 4chelate compounds of NiII, CuII and CdII with bis-Schiff bases are reported. These polymer products are colored powders insoluble in benzene, ether, ethanol, and other common organic solvents. The molecular weight of these polymers has not been determined, in fact, they can not even be estimated by the use of elemental analysis data. Thermal stability of chelate compounds varies according to the various metals involved. NiII chelates are stable above 360C. CuII chelates have the lowest thermal stability and lose their weight at a temperature of 260C. The thermal weight-loss curves of ZnII and CdII chelate polymers are more complicated. The thermal stability of chelate compounds also varies according to various monomers.
