Abstract:

The aim of this report is to study the statistical theory of brittle fracture in crystals on the basis of the dislocation theory. The process of brittle fracture is substantially a stochastic one by which microcracks form, grow, and propagate during very small plastic deformation. The functional relationship of the number and size of microcracks to plastic deformation, work hardening, and number of active dislocation sources is discussed in the article. Author
