Abstract:

The flow of air, which is twisted by a bladed apparatus, issues from an annular slit thickness 2.5 mm and is propagated along a rod diameter 45 mm. The velocity and static pressure are measured by a three-channel probe. The profiles of the tangential and axial velocities and the static pressure are recorded. The self-similar nature of the velocity profile, and the static pressure in the case of different ratios of the initial velocity of the costream to the initial axial velocity of the jet and of the maximum tangential velocity on egress from the nozzle to the initial axial velocity of the jet are established. The similarity of the profiles of the axial and tangential components of velocity, and the effect of the twist of the jet on damping of the latter are discussed. Author
