Abstract:

An automatic master apparatus AMA, controlling the maintenance of linear overlap was developed. The operation of the apparatus is based on the calculation of WH, where W is the ground speed of the aircraft and H is the true altitude at which photographs are taken the information obtained from a Doppler aircraft ground speed meter and new types of radar altimeters. The AMA has been tested by taking aerial photographs of flat as well as of mountainous areas from altitudes from 500 to 5000m using cameras with f sub k 100 and 200 mm. The linear overlap of the aerial photographs of flat areas was 60 or 80 and of mountainous areas, 64. The error in the overlap determined by the mean square method is plus or minus 1 on plains and plus or minus 2 in the mountainous localities. It is concluded that the use of automatic maintenance of the linear overlap based on autonomous radionavigational systems is most satisfactory. No linear discontinuities have been observed on the series of aerial photographs taken with this equipment. Author
