Uniaxial compression tests were conducted on Solenhofen limestone, Westerly granite, and dry tuff at strain rates from 0.0001second to about 1000second at room temperature and with no confining pressure. Low and medium strain rates were obtained using an Instron screw driven machine and a Medium Strain-Rate Machine. High strain rates were obtained using the Hopkinson bar technique. Results are presented as stress-strain curves at constant strain rates and as stress-log strain-rate curves at constant strains. The experimental results and explanations of the observed behavior are presented along with a detailed description of the materials investigated and the experimental techniques implemented. Author
