Abstract:

A gas chromatograph equipped with a 70 m., 0.25 mm. i.d. capillary column coated with squalene and an ionization dector was used to determine 37 of the possible 38 hydrocarbons in the straight run 111C gasoline fractions of 5 Soviet crudes. For the C7-isoparaffins the following ratios were obtained for all crudes 3-methylhexane and 3-ethylpentane 9010 2,3-dimethylpentane and 2,4-dimethylpentane 8020 and 3,3-dimethylpentane and 2,2-dimethylpentane 5050. For the C7-cycloparaffins the ratio of cis- to trans-1, 3-dimethycyclopentane is 5347 and for cis- to trans-1, 2-dimethylcyclopentane it is 1288. These ratios correspond to the thermodynamic equilibrium at 600K. Author
