Abstract:

Release 6 of MARK IV was installed on an IBM 36040. This computer system had been and is still primarily devoted to graphics research. The operating system used is the PCP VERSION OF OS360. As a part of the graphics research program, a small time-shared system was developed. This system, called SGS, Simultaneous Graphics System supports six IBM 2260 graphic terminals. The SGS command language gives a user both text editing and remote job entry capability. It also gives a user the ability to create and modify data files of several types. In order to gain some experience with on-line file management systems in general and to provide a limited production tool for quick response jobs, it was decided that the marriage of SGS and MARK IV was a reasonable path to follow.
