Abstract:

A very brief but reasonably comprehensive survey and annotated bibliography was made of the recent technical literature covering the topic of small object camouflage. Based upon the information obtained, a substantial number of suggestions and recommendations were produced regarding techniques to improve such camouflage in actual practice. Certain fundamental aspects of the small object camouflage problem are shown to be essentially unknown. Hypotheses and specific ideas are suggested which form the nucleus of both a broad and intensive program of applied research. While many of these suggestions relate to particular topics in the field of Human Factors Engineering or Experimental Psychology, many others make a case for increased application of System Analysis andor Operations Research methodology.
